Kids were very unkind when I was growing up. Blubber butt, porker, lard bucket, butterball, over the quarter pounder rounder, all of which today or verboten, were names used when I was a child at school to bully those that were overweight. Kids fat shaming each other on the playground I would guess since in introduction of public schools. But Japan as a nation takes fat shaming to a whole new level and for most Western women, living in the country can be mentally scared as most notions of beauty at any size are viciously mocked in the media but also in most social interactions.

Despite being a wealthy country and access to food second to none, With Tokyo having more Michelin stared restaurants than any city in the world, why does the average Japanese woman not get fat? And why is even the American depiction of Godzilla come under fire in Japan for his perceived American shape?
