How Your Favorite Internet Celebrities Are Manufactured
August 27, 2026

Political YouTube can sometimes feel like an endless battlefield. One personality attacks the left, another attacks the right, audiences mobilize around their favorite creators, and every disagreement becomes another piece of content. But beneath that apparent chaos is a rapidly professionalizing industry.

Talent agencies, advertisers, sponsors, analytics, recommendation systems, and platform incentives all play a role in determining which personalities become enormous.
Hasan Piker and Asmongold might seem like two people who could hardly be further apart. Their politics, audiences, personalities, and public personas appear radically different. But that contrast is exactly what makes the business infrastructure behind them so interesting.

Once you stop looking at the personalities themselves and start looking at the industry surrounding modern internet celebrities, a much larger story begins to emerge.

Green Day Saw This Coming

When Mike Judge released *Idiocracy* in 2006, its premise was absurd enough to be funny: an average man wakes up in a future where intellectual standards have collapsed so dramatically that he becomes the smartest person around. The Impossible Alliance

Political alliances are often explained through shared values, common interests, or a vision of the future. But what happens when none of those explanations seems entirely sufficient? Across contemporary Western politics, movements with very different beliefs have increasingly found themselves rallying around the same international cause.
Their differences are not trivial, and the question of what connects them deserves more than a superficial answer.
In my latest video, I explore this strange convergence and ask what it reveals about the direction of modern political life.

Democracy Believers Were Wrong
The costs of a changing society are not always captured by conventional economic measures. Consider the time spent verifying agreements, the additional precautions people take, or the growing importance of personal networks when confidence in impersonal institutions declines. Each may seem insignificant in isolation. Together, they can affect how people work, cooperate, and plan for the future.
My new video explores the hidden importance of social trust and why its deterioration can change the experience of everyday life.
