The Wine Aunt Age-Gap MELTDOWN
We're constantly told that women are independent adults who can make their own romantic choices. Until, apparently, they choose a man the internet disapproves of. Then suddenly everyone becomes a relationship expert, amateur psychologist and self-appointed guardian of female agency.
Apparently, a man dating a younger woman is now enough to trigger an entire internet tribunal. But is all this outrage really about protecting women—or is something else going on?
I've been looking into the new age-gap moral panic. My latest video asks some rather uncomfortable questions.
Out soon, and as always, thanks so much for sticking with me. It is very much appreciated and I hope your weekend goes well.
Be well.

Is Weimar-America Worth Dying For?

A country is more than a government, a flag or a line drawn on a map. At its best, it is a community that people feel connected to, an inheritance that gives them something worth preserving, and a promise that the next generation might enjoy a better future. But what happens when that promise begins to disappear? When the language of national duty remains intact while confidence in the institutions demanding it deteriorates, the relationship between citizens and the state becomes much more complicated. That is the starting point for my latest video.

Japan's New Internet Insult: "Pocahontas"

Every so often, the internet produces an insult so unexpected that it deserves a closer look. China's “Baizuo” was one example: a word that condensed a particular criticism of Western liberalism into a single, memorable label. Now, an equally curious expression is attracting attention in discussions of Japanese dating culture: “Pocahontas.” What is the word supposed to mean, why is it being used in this context, and what does it reveal about the way people judge one another? My latest video investigates the story behind this unusual label and the cultural assumptions that may lie beneath it.
